New statute introduced in April doesn't educate on best practice - but it certainly motivates the mind!

The countdown continues - only 6 weeks to go!

Picture the scene; ICO members previously frustrated by empty promises and toothless fines are now preparing for an all out offensive against organisations failing to comply with data protection laws.

All we've heard about for the last 2 or 3 years is stories about lost USB memory sticks or laptops - but the alarming rise in today's data loss does not originate from this legacy source. Statistics released by the Ponemon Institute reveal that 36% of all data loss in the UK (42% in the US) is a direct result of third parties mishandling or losing your information. The upshot is; even if you think that sufficient policy is in place to protect sensitive information - it would appear that your data is still not immune to unwanted exposure.

Isn't it about time we took back control??
